Attachment to the Minutes of SWANA Rocky Mountain Chapter Monthly Board of Directors MeetingMay 16, 2005 Scott Harold Training Requirements for Solid Waste Disposal Sites Dear Mr. Harold: Colorado Rocky Mountain SWANA Chapter conducted a solid waste training program for rural landfill operators on May 10, 2005 in Yuma, Colorado. It was co-sponsored with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). The program was well attended with many rural landfill operators represented. In this training program various topics were discussed such as interpretation of ground water data and management of electronic wastes. One of the questions discussed, was in response to clarification of training requirements for solid waste disposal sites. Mr. Roger Doak, CDPHE representative at the training program responded that landfill operator training is routinely checked during facility inspections. He further stressed the need to continue with ongoing training to maintain landfill operator proficiencies. In conjunction with this discussion, I understand that Washington County may not plan to renew Monte Bedeaux’s solid waste membership in SWANA upon expiration in September 2005. The Colorado Rocky Mountain SWANA Chapter is very interested in reaching out to train solid waste professionals as part of our 2005 program. If a scholarship would help Washington County maintain Mr. Bedeaux’s SWANA membership and the required training, please let me know. Please contact me if you would like to discuss this matter further at 303-914-1444. Sincerely Leonard Butler, President
