2004 Colorado Rocky Mountain SWANA
Chapter Meeting
by Leonard Butler

Summer 2004

Mark your calendars and plan to attend the 2004 Colorado Rocky Mountain SWANA Chapter Meeting to be held October 7-8, 2004 in Estes Park at the Holiday Inn.

Registration information is included with this newsletter and was e-mailed to chapter members separately. The program will begin the afternoon of October 7, 2004 with a tour of solid waste practices at Rocky Mountain National Park. The Park is Colorado's biggest tourist attraction and this time of year is a wonderful opportunity to observe the large elk bugling. The tour will be followed by a reception from 7-8:30 pm that evening at the hotel.

A full day of speakers is planned for October 8, 2004. The day's program will consist of five segments divided into the following categories:

  • Material Handling Bidding Wars?
  • Material Handling the Difficult Wastes
  • Mold; Verb or Noun?
  • Methane – Non-Explosive issues
  • Managing a Plan to use Closed Landfills

For those members with SWANA Certifications, a total of 11 hours of continuing education credit can be completed by attending both days.

Our luncheon speaker is Kyle Patterson, Rocky Mountain National Park Public Information Officer. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the Park, its future and the challenges. Bring those questions that you have always had about the Park and get the answers.

The afternoon will also include the annual business meeting to elect chapter officers, board members and adopt changes to the bylaws. General input from members is welcome and needed to help meet the coming year’s needs of the solid waste community.

The annual meeting will conclude in the evening with a dinner at the Stanley Hotel nearby in Estes Park.
