Swana's International Board Makes Key Fy06 Decisions In Boulder
by Laurie Batchelder Adams

Summer 2005

SWANA’s International Board voted in an across-the-board $24 annual member dues increase in early June at its mid-year meeting in Boulder. This increase will take effect in FY06 and was supported by the Colorado SWANA Chapter Board of Directors. The FY06 budget balances $4.6M in activities, including an expanded electronic training program, a new certification course on bioreactor landfill operations (July, 2005) and a new E-Library available free to members (later in 2005).

A second major board decision included the deferment of a possible consolidation of SWANA’s WasteCon annual show and conference with Primedia’s WasteExpo (Primedia is a large conglomerate ownership of several trade shows and publications). Despite media musings to the contrary, SWANA has not received any proposal for consolidation from Primedia (which is currently for sale) and has decided to defer future discussion at this time. Instead, board members spent their time in Boulder evaluating changes and improvements for WasteCon over the next several years. A Partnership Committee is currently investigating other partnerships for expanding the breadth of SWANA’s numerous technical and exhibitor events.

Further information on SWANA planning and budget strategy is available from Laurie Batchelder Adams, the Colorado SWANA Chapter’s Int’l Board Director (Email).
