One highlight of the Board’s efforts has been involved in bringing our Colorado Chapter Members training opportunities to become better solid waste management professionals. The training programs to be presented this year include the popular technical program lunches (particularly with the hot Italian Buffet!), e-online learning and the upcoming annual meeting. Training information will be available on the Chapter’s web page if you are unable to participate. An overflow crowd was present for the February 21, 2006 Technical Program. Jerry Henderson and Cindy Smith of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) presented an overview of SB 05-141. A copy of their presentation on addressing limitations placed on disposal of batteries, oil and tires from motorized equipment has been posted on www.coloradoswana.org. The May 23, 2006 technical program includes a tour of the Boulder County Recycling Facility. The next scheduled event will include an e-online training program. The course content is currently being finalized and is scheduled for mid-July to address the training topic of waste screening at recycling, transfer and disposal facilities. The program will be cosponsored with the CDPHE. Topics to be covered will include sources of hazardous waste, facility responsibilities and waste examination procedures. The training will be presented online in a four hour segment and is intended to satisfy CDPHE requirements for waste screening. You should receive a notice about this program in May 2006. The annual meeting program planning is well underway for October 5-6, 2006 in Alamosa, Colorado. You should expect to receive more information about the program in June 2006. We have already booked the Inn of the Rio Grande and encourage you to put this event on your calendars NOW! We plan to continue to maximize use of the internet for e-mail blasts. In addition, we encourage your company to use this website to advertise. To date, we have received 2006 website sponsorship, from the following eight companies: AquAeTer, Inc., Colorado Lining, Evergreen Analytical Laboratory, Golder Associates, LBA Associates, QED Environmental Systems, Ted D. Miller Associates and Weaver Boos Consultants. If interested, your firm can reach out to Chapter membership by contacting John Briest. The Chapter Board solicits your continued interest in hearing from you and what value can be delivered to assist in your professional solid waste management responsibilities. We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming training programs.
