2006 Professional Development Scholarship
by John Briest

Winter 2006

The Colorado Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America (CO-SWANA) is looking to encourage professional development within the Solid Waste field. To encourage this, CO-SWANA will be awarding three scholarships to qualified businesses and or government agencies.

Scholarship Availability:

The scholarships will be awarded for use in SWANA training only. This training may be web-based, traditional classroom type training or other SWANA sponsored training. The scholarship is available to all persons or entities which have a minimum of one member of their department/office/organization enrolled as a paying SWANA member at the time of application for the training. The scholarships are available for use between January 1, 2006 and October 15, 2006.

Scholarships:

The chapter will award up to three scholarships. Two will be $250.00 in value and one will be $500.00 in value. Only one scholarship will be given to an individual/department/office/organization per calendar year.

Criteria for Award:

The Chapter will review the scholarship request and will prioritize, evaluate and rank the request on the following criteria:

  1. The number of professionals served by the training.
  2. The opportunities for partnering with other department/office/organizations to share information, literature or contacts collected at the training event.
  3. The content and timeliness of the training session.
  4. The expectation of the training’s benefits as it relates to professional growth for the individual/department/office/organization.

Submittal Requirement:

To be considered for a scholarship please submit a one-page typed letter addressing the above referenced criteria including a description of the training session, SWANA membership number and any pertinent information relevant in the awarding of the scholarship. The application for training must be submitted at least 30 days prior to the scheduled event.
